Located in London

Blind Bruiser is the intermediary between you and the Man of Business.

Description[ | ]

Blind Bruiser may look like an ordinary pirate but look again. His connection to the Man of Business makes him a profitable, but dangerous, business connection. Double cross him and you will see his blade up close.

Interactions[ | ]

When you approach the Blind Bruiser, your SS constable TCsmall Suspicion increases. This does not include the sale of sunlight though.

Cargo that the Blind Bruiser is asking you to deliver is only being checked for by the SS ancientriflesmall The Revenue Men which only care about your cargo hold when SS gamekeeper cottagesmall Something Awaits You ≥ 1 and ≤ 30.

SS specialconstablesmall An Inspection by the Ministry of Public Decency which only come by when SS gamekeeper cottagesmall Something Awaits You ≥ 31 and ≤ 50, will walk past anything related to Blind Bruiser without batting an eye, which actually helps with suspicion unless of course you are also cheating their side of the law.

To be able to safely deal with SS ancientriflesmall The Revenue Men either keep your eyes on SS gamekeeper cottagesmall Something Awaits You, and don't enter SS Fallen London London when "the stars aren't aligned" in your favour, or keep your SS veilssmall Veils high and your SS constable TCsmall Suspicion low (more info on SS ancientriflesmall The Revenue Men page). You could also land in a nearby port (SS hunterskeep portsmall Hunter's Keep, SS muttonisland portsmall Quaker's Haven, SS lightship portsmall Light-Ship) to swap your favourite aft accessory for a SS keyhole2small Concealed Compartment or to waste your SS gamekeeper cottagesmall Something Awaits You (if that's possible) and get back to SS Fallen London London with a different value (a value of 0 works).

Alternatively you can spend SS paperstacksmall Favours: Admiralty's Favour.

Or you can pay the tax or get caught, and then pay 1500 x SS echosmall Echo to the bruiser to compensate for your failure.

Alternatively you should be able to survive the failure with high iron.

Failing all that will be the death of you.

If you are not comfortable about your chances of surviving the consequences of your next touching reunion with the SS ancientriflesmall The Revenue Men, you may want to end your dealing with the bruiser before he decides to spring his next smuggling errand on you.

An offer for your sunlight[ | ]

This interaction will not appear if you are currently not involved with the Blind Bruiser (either didn't accept his initial offer or have concluded your dealings). Nor will it appear if you do not have any Sunlight-Filled Mirrorcatch Boxes.

We'll take the golden stuff off your hands. For a price which I must say surpasses the generous and enters the realm of the charitable donation."

Sell the Bruiser your boxes

He'll pay four hundred Echoes for each - a little less than the Isle of Cats - but he's trustworthy, in his way.

"A pleasure!"

His men return the boxes, some hours later, empty of sunlight, but now containing a suitable number of coins.

You gain Empty Mirrorcatch Boxes equal to the amount of Sunlight-Filled Mirrorcatch Boxes you had

"A very fine evening to you, captain. My what you might call mentor is very fond of adventurous zee-captains and he would like to offer you what you might call a dispensation. On account of he is so fond of zee-captains." Behind the Blind Bruiser, on the dock, stands a dray piled high with fuel and supplies.

Interactions[ | ]

Actions Requirements Effects Notes
Accept the ‘dispensation’

Do make sure you have fifteen points of space in the hold, or come back later. It would be embarrassing to have to leave it on the dock.

A courteous nod

"Well, my patron hopes that you find these little gifts to your liking, and he expects that perhaps some day you might choose to call on him at the Medusa's Head. Should that day come, we will make you very welcome and give you any safe conduct what you might require. Good evening to you."

He salutes, and is gone.

Accepting this will start your dealings with the Blind Bruiser which can only be stopped permanently. If you are looking to sell him the sunlight, but are not looking forward to doing his endless smuggling errands you may want to keep this offer hanging until you are actually ready to sell him some sunlight.
Enquire further

Who is this ‘patron’? Is there a catch?

An airy wave

"He runs a very fine and very liberal establishment just across the river what is much patronised by zailors and by men of wit and vinegar. An public 'ouse. And there is no obligation to speak of. My patron would hope only that you might remember him kindly and I suppose that if the opportunity should arise for you to return his kindness then I do not imagine he would refuse your offer."

Returns back to accept or refuse screen after pressing continue.
Refuse

Too good to be true?

A sorrowful farewell

"I will not deny that I am a little saddened and I think that my patron also will share my sadness. But I understand that you knows your business and that a zee-captain is a free spirit. And I will explain carefully to my patron that you mean no insult by the refusing of his kind gift. Zail zafe."

The dray creaks off into the dockside crowd.

It's only, after all, a trifling inconvenience.

"If you would be so kind to deliver this little gift to our friends in Mt Palmerston then they will see we gets to hear about it. And when you come back we'll cover your expenses. Bomb vwoyi-arge, as my aunt who was French by birth if not by inclination used to like to say."

"Yes, I think you would be very suitable for this task. Very suitable indeed."
Refuse the commission

Your hold is full. Your affairs are complex. Mt Palmerston is far away and full of devils.

"I have to say you've made me very sad."

The Blind Bruiser wags a scarred finger. "Of course though I do understand. The Unterzee is terrible dangerous as every zailor knows and you needs to be careful of unforeseen consequences." He nods ponderously. "Unforeseen consequences," he repeats. "Well, good day to you."

The Blind Bruiser begins to lead her away, but she stops before you. "Perhaps I'll see you there." She nods to the Bruiser; they continue on their way.

Here are necessaries for your next excursion. Here are some peculiar fruit, what I do not otherwise know what to do with."

Two days later, the rumours race around London: the Cheery Man is dead. Choked on his dinner, they say. It's a surprise then, when you receive an invitation to drink with the Cheery Man at the Medusa's Head.

Give him the cane
You procured it at a shop of pedigree and reputation. It is as white as the one from your honey-dream.

"You're quite certain, are you, that this is the path you want to take? Well, well. What a bold occasion, if I may say so, for you to indulge in philosophy. Nevertheless, I will convey this to my employer. Be assured that I will be at pains to ensure he knows exactly who to thank for it. In fact - remind me again how precisely to spell your name."

The next day, you receive an invitation from the Cheery Man. He wants you to join him for drinks.
